FAQ

Common questions

What is microcement?

Microcement is a decorative coating made from cement, polymers and pigments. It's applied by hand in thin layers and then sealed, giving a seamless, hard-wearing surface without grout lines or joins.

Can microcement go over my existing tiles?

In many cases, yes – microcement can often be applied over existing tiles and other sound, stable surfaces once they've been properly prepared. We'll check the surface when we quote.

Is microcement suitable for showers and wet rooms?

Yes. With the correct preparation and sealing system, microcement gives a waterproof finish suitable for bathrooms, showers and wet rooms.

What's the difference between skimming and replastering?

Skimming adds a thin finish coat over existing sound plaster or plasterboard. Replastering means removing the old plaster back to the wall and building it up again – usually needed when plaster is blown, cracked or damaged.

How long does new plaster take to dry before painting?

It varies with the thickness, the room and the weather, but a fresh skim typically needs several days to dry fully. We'll give you guidance for your job and advise on using a mist coat before painting.

Can you cover Artex ceilings?

Yes. Artex and textured finishes can be skimmed over or overboarded to give a smooth, modern ceiling. We'll recommend the best option when we see it.

Do you take on commercial work?

Yes – we work on both domestic and commercial projects. Get in touch with details and we'll discuss what's needed.
